OUR TEAM

About Us

The Amiha Foundation is committed to safeguarding Ye’Abeniet schools, which have played an important role in the education of priests and church scholars for centuries. They are known for their distinctive educational system deeply rooted in Ethiopia’s Orthodox Tewahedo Christian faith. In the interest of cultural and spiritual preservation, we provide scholarships, so education is accessible to all children regardless of their economic background. Through scholarships, our goal is to empower Ethiopia’s future leaders.

Inspired by Merigeta Amiha’s teachings, the foundation was established in 2024 by Merigeta Afework Amiha and his wife Melat Bikila. The foundation is named after his father, Amiha, which is the ge’ez word for gift, and reflects the foundation’s guiding spirit. We are proud of the work that we do, and we firmly believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for positive changes in a community.

THE STUDENTS

About Abenet Students

Abenet schools have played an important role in the education of priests and church scholars for centuries. They are known for their distinctive educational system deeply rooted in Ethiopia’s Orthodox Tewahedo Christian faith. Ye’Abenet schools rely on scholarships to support students’ academic endeavors and fulfill their fundamental needs like food, shelter, water, and other daily essentials. Currently, students of Ye’Abenet schools are compelled to rely on their communities for sustenance. Furthermore, these scholarships also aid in procuring livestock, which can eventually pave the way for self-sustainability and income generation within the schools.

It is worth noting that Ye’Abenet schools serve a significant role in preserving Ethiopia’s ecological balance. With a staggering 90% loss of forests over the past century, the church forests have become the last remaining green havens in many regions. In line with cultural, environmental, and spiritual preservation the Amiha Foundation is committed to safeguarding Ye’Abeniet schools. In the interest of cultural and spiritual preservation, we provide scholarships, so education is accessible to all children regardless of their economic background. Through scholarships, our goal is to empower Ethiopia’s future leaders.
