Abenet schools have played an important role in the education of priests and church scholars for centuries. They are known for their distinctive educational system deeply rooted in Ethiopia’s Orthodox Tewahedo Christian faith. Ye’Abenet schools rely on scholarships to support students’ academic endeavors and fulfill their fundamental needs like food, shelter, water, and other daily essentials. Currently, students of Ye’Abenet schools are compelled to rely on their communities for sustenance. Furthermore, these scholarships also aid in procuring livestock, which can eventually pave the way for self-sustainability and income generation within the schools.

It is worth noting that Ye’Abenet schools serve a significant role in preserving Ethiopia’s ecological balance. With a staggering 90% loss of forests over the past century, the church forests have become the last remaining green havens in many regions.
